NFL Preseason Kicks Off with Hall of Fame Game
Bears and Texans Face Off in Canton
The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans will kick off the 2024 NFL preseason on Thursday in the NFL Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The game will mark the first time the Bears have played in the preseason opener since 2019, and it will be the Texans' first appearance in the game since 2017.
A New Era Begins
The game will be the first under new Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, who was hired in January after the team went 6-11 last season. Eberflus is a former defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, and he is expected to bring a more aggressive style of play to the Bears. The Texans are also under new leadership, with Lovie Smith taking over as head coach after David Culley was fired following a 4-13 season.
A Test for Young Players
The preseason is a time for teams to evaluate their young players, and both the Bears and Texans have several players who will be looking to make an impact. The Bears have a number of rookies who could see significant playing time, including wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. and cornerback Kyler Gordon. The Texans also have a number of young players who will be looking to impress, including quarterback Davis Mills and running back Dameon Pierce.
A Preview of the Regular Season
The preseason is also a chance for teams to get a preview of their regular season opponents. The Bears and Texans will face each other again in Week 1 of the regular season, so the preseason game will give both teams a chance to see what they can expect from each other.
